Martin Dieck, President & CEO. Prior to joining Nfocus, Martin was President and CEO of CardioVasc, a
manufacturer of medical implants with biomimetic properties that promote rapid healing and resist rejection by
bodily defenses. Previously he was Co-Founder, President and CEO of Concentric Medical, which was the first
company to receive approval from the US government to treat ischemic stroke. Martin also served as senior
executive at a medical incubator where he evaluated early-stage medical device opportunities and participated in the
formation of four companies. Earlier, Martin was also a co-founder of Micro Interventional Systems, an early
interventional neuroradiology start-up, which was acquired in 1995. In addition to his operational and deal-
evaluation expertise, Martin is also an inventor with numerous issued and pending patents. Martin received his B.A.
in Biological Sciences from Willamette University and M.B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley.
Thomas Ross, Executive Vice-President, brings more than 25 years in the medical device field. Tom founded Acta
Vascular Systems, acquired by Nfocus in 2007. Tom has held top sales and marketing positions at Parallax Medical
(sold to ArthroCare Corp.), Oratec (now within Smith & Nephew in 2002), Micro Interventional Systems (acquired
by Medtronic) and American Medical Electronics (now Orthofix). He holds a B.A. in Biology, M.S.P.H. in
Epidemiology and M.B.A. - all from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Carrie Neuberger, Vice-President of Regulatory, Clinical Affairs and Quality Assurance. Prior to Nfocus,
Carrie was VP of RA/CA/QA of CardioVasc, a manufacturer of cardiovascular implants. She joined CardioVasc
after forming and running her own regulatory, quality, and clinical consulting firm for four years. She previously
held senior executive positions in RA/QA at Mallinckrodt, Baxter Healthcare, Valleylab, and numerous start-up
device firms spanning her 20 year career. Carrie received her BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of
Virginia. She is a frequent speaker and former Director of the San Francisco Bay Chapter of the Regulatory Affairs
Professional Society (RAPS) and currently sits on the U.S. RAC Regulatory Affairs Certification Board.
Frank Becking, Vice-President of IP and Advanced Technology, is a registered patent attorney. Prior to Nfocus,
he exercised primary IP strategy responsibility as each of outside and in-house counsel for start-up medical device
companies including Parallax Medical, Converge Medical, nContact Surgical, AVAcore Technologies and
CardioMind, Inc. Frank acquired extensive patent litigation, IP diligence, licensing negotiation and license drafting
experience over the past decade of his legal practice. During this time, he remained active in mechanical and
biomedical engineering activities. Frank holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from
Stanford University and received his J.D. at Santa Clara University together with the school's Certificate of High-
Tech Law.
Sepehr Fariabi, PhD, Vice-President of Research and Development, brings 20 years and extensive technical and
management experience in complex interventional and minimally invasive devices. Prior to Nfocus, he was Senior
Vice-President of R&D at Biosensors International, a drug eluting stent (DES) company. He has served as Senior
Director in Heart Valve Therapy for Edwards Lifesciences, where he was responsible for a team working on
advanced materials for heart valve, stent and complex catheter design. Sepehr was also COO/VP at Advanced Stent
Technologies where he was responsible for the design of the AST bifurcation stent (acquired by Boston Scientific
Corporation). He has also served as VP R&D for Oratec Interventions and as Dir R&D for the Vascular Therapies
Division of US Surgical Corporation. Sepehr holds over 30 issued and pending patents in advanced medical
materials such as hollow shape memory alloy (nitinol) and cobalt-chromium stents. Dr Fariabi holds a Master
Science Management degree from Stritch College (Milwaukee), a PhD in Materials Engineering from the University
of Houston, a Master of Science for Materials Science from the University of Manchester, U.K., and a Metallurgical
Engineering degree from AryaMehr (Tehran).
